Today, I Found Salvation!

A "Ham Salvation", that is, and rather than finding it, I picked it up at a local sandwich shop (Alvin Ord's). Today was the first day that I struggled over what to photograph, and in the end the sandwich won out. Hey, I put it where I wanted it, and it didn't move. Sounds like the perfect photographic subject to me!

It does look pretty yummy, doesn't it?

Snuggle Buddy

As a baby, Riley never got attached to a toy or blanket like some kids do. In a way I'm glad he didn't, but then again I'd like for there to be that one special toy/stuffed animal/blanket that I could always hold onto for a special memento from his early childhood; something that could be passed down to his own child one day. This little monkey just might be that special keepsake. My dad sent me flowers when I was admitted to the hospital and in labor with Riley, and this little monkey accompanied the arrangement. No, Riley didn't become attached to it immediately, though I do have a photo of Riley with the monkey while still in the hospital. It wasn't until several months ago (at age 4) that he really showed anything more than a passing interest in it at all, but now it is his nighttime snuggle buddy. If monkey isn't in the bed when Riley climbs in, he'll go looking for him. He really is a cute little monkey, and I think he'll be the one that gets put away for safe-keeping when Riley outgrows his little boy attachment to him.

Lunch/Play Date

It was pretty cold here today with a high in the 40's (at least that's what it was supposed to be!), so we met up with my sister-in-law and nephew for lunch and to let the kids play on the indoor playground at Burger King. The colors in there are incredibly bright and fun, and I snapped a pic of Riley for the blog before we headed home.
Honey Bunny, Riley's Easter bunny from a couple of years ago passed away this week so we're down to one rabbit. I went out to give him (Bun-Bun) a carrot and some cabbage this afternoon and decided I would include a couple of pics of him today too!

Close To Home

There's not that much going on around here today. I'm just trying to get caught up on some work before the new work week starts tomorrow. I'm not feeling top notch today so I didn't go out looking for any photos. I took this one right here in my bedroom. A yellow daisy I got yesterday.

Whew! That was close....

I almost forgot to take a picture for today! I left the house this morning at 8:30 and didn't get home until after 5. I had a scrapbook party this morning and then took my Mammaw to Bluffton to Michael's craft store. I spent entirely too much money, but I did get some pretty things to go in my bedroom. Maybe when I get those projects finished I'll post a picture of them here. However, today's pictures were taken at my Pappaw's barn. When I got home this afternoon, I grabbed my camera and went out to the barn for a few quick snaps.

My Pappaw is a "piddler", which means that he loves to "piddle". He has two horses, several horse-drawn wagons and buggies, saddles, tools....and lots of junk out at his barn. Today you get to meet Charlie, one of his Haflinger horses. He was looking a little rough today and needs a bath! I interrupted his dinner, so you see him in his stall munching on hay. The other photo is a pic of the outside wall of the barn. It is strewn with lots of tools, an old tub, and some of that junk that I mentioned earlier. Hope you enjoy them.

Tough Morning

My day didn't go exactly as planned today. I was going to get up and complete a tape of transcriptions, shower and then head into the office as usual. I gave Riley some breakfast, turned the television on to his favorite cartoons, and then set out to complete my work. After a series of unfortunate events (long story), Riley ended up with a splinter in his hand. It wasn't so much a splinter as it was a "chunk" of wood. He came inside in near hysterics. My boy may be big for his age, but he's still just 4-years-old. After wrestling with him a bit, I was able to get a grasp on the wood and gave a good tug.....nothing. I couldn't get it out, and he was fighting me so hard that I was afraid I would break it off inside. Forget the work, forget the shower....we were off to the office where I could enlist the help of Dr. Rhodes to dislodge the splinter. Of course, he manhandled Riley with relative ease and pulled the splinter right out...in a matter of seconds. I'm useless! It doesn't help that my son's tears of pain squeeze at my heart (but not so hard that I couldn't take a few pics of the huge splinter!) LOL. It sounds heartless, but I swear that I didn't get the camera out until the hysterics were over and he had been duly comforted! By the time I started taking pictures he was adamant that he would live forever with this chunk of wood protruding from his little hand, as he was not going to allow anyone to take it out!

This freakin' hurts!

The blasted splinter!

*sniff* I might live after all.

Oh yeah, I'm feeling much better now that Sponge Bob is on."

One in color, just for the heck of it!

SPICE IT UP A LITTLE!

Today, I'm just trying to make a rather humdrum, unoriginal photo of my son just a little more exciting. I'm kind of liking the artistic crop on this one. It'll be fun to scrapbook at any rate! Riley has recently learned to blow bubbles, and he insists that we all look at every single one of them! This is all I have time for today, as I'm super swamped with work!! So I'm off to get busy with my typing!

COASTAL LIVING

One of the things that I love the most about living on the coast is the seafood! Shrimp, crabs, oysters, clams...if seafood is on the menu, you can bet I'll be eating it! Today, Riley and I took a trip down to Port Royal to take a couple of pics of the shrimp boats. NOT a good day to forget my coat! The wind coming in off of the water was more than a little nippy and, needless to say, we didn't stay out there long. I was cursing my lack of a zoom lens when I couldn't get close enough to the huge birds to get a good click! *sigh*

Riley is no longer "satisfied" to be in front of the camera (I would refer the reader to yesterday's photo submission!). These days he would rather be the one clicking the shutter! I'm not about to turn him loose with my digital Rebel, but I will allow him to take a few pics while I have a death grip on the camera strap. Riley has been so kind as to make a photographic contribution to today's post. The second photo below is one he snapped while out in Port Royal this afternoon. I photoshopped it for him, but that's his crop.

Riley Makes His Blogger Debut!

Today, it seems, is the day that Riley will make his photographic debut on my photo-a-day blog! As you can see, he is somewhat less than thrilled with the opportunity to be the subject of today's featured photograph! Ah well, this is a face that I am seeing more and more these days. It's called simply, "The Pout"! Again, excuse the grain/noise (which I really don't mind all that much in black and white photos). I'm really awful at high ISO's and the weather is still very dim and rainy.

Naturally Sweet and Delicious!

I'm not much for fruit, but it's hard to beat fresh strawberries! I wish I could say that we picked these out of the field (because really, what can beat that?!), but we picked these up at the local Wal-Mart. They still taste delicious! I think I'll have to take Riley to the U-Pick Strawberry field this year. We've never done that, and I think he would really enjoy it.

The weather was REALLY uncooperative today with very overcast skies and rain all day. Subsequently, today's pictures are really grainy from having to shoot at a high ISO, and the necessary shallow depth of field just wouldn't allow for all of the berries to be in focus. I may try this again on a day with a little sunshine, as I think my mom might like pics like these for her kitchen.

Better Late than Never, right?

Okay, so I'm getting started on the 2007 photo-a-day challenge fairly late--21 days late, to be exact--but better late than never! I don't know how long I'll be able to keep it up (or how interesting the photos will be when I do! LOL), but I'm going to give it a go! The majority of photos will no doubt include Riley, as he is my #1 priority photo subject, and I think that is as it should be! My first contribution to the challenge, however, does NOT include Riley! It is a photo taken today of my mom making sauerkraut. It should be smelling pretty RIPE in a couple of weeks. Just be thankful that you won't be able to smell it! So....here it is....my first photo!
